Seventeen students and their families, supporters, and guests ventured to Byfield for the summer program’s opening brunch. This mostly new student group visiting campus for the first time was greeted by a talented staff of nine lead teachers and student-instructors and encouraged by a core of several enthusiastic returning participants.
Students and their families were welcomed by Director Holly O’Donohue who introduced the GovsPLUS staff. This year’s expert staff includes five new Govs student-instructors (Ashley Portorreal ’15, Katy Maina ’15, Emma Nekoroski ’16, Hannah Wagner ’16, Abby Bashaw ’17) who join Ariel Portorreal ’16 (back for a second summer) and two exceptional 2014 Lawrence High School graduates (Yosvani Lopez and Ricky Rios). Students and families heard wonderful words of welcome from GovsPLUS founding Trustee Spencer Purinton ’75, P’13, P’14 and Headmaster Peter Quimby ’85, P’14. The GovsPLUS staff then led tours of key campus areas in both English and Spanish. Students and their families were thrilled to see the beautiful grounds that we will all enjoy over the next five weeks of hard work together.
GovsPLUS launches officially Monday morning, June 30th. We can’t wait!
