After a week-long postponement due to rainy conditions, GovsPLUS was proudly able to join the City of Lawrence’s Earth Day clean up effort. Organized by Groundwork Lawrence and sponsored by Comcast, the cleanup was a well-orchestrated and energizing event.
More than 500 volunteers met on Campagnone Common to get prepped and ready for the day. Recently elected Mayor Dan Rivera spoke to the crowd, and joined in for part of the day himself.
GovsPLUS students spent the day beautifying the Immigrant Place/O’Neil park and surrounding grounds.
It was quite a project and lots of hard work, but we were rewarded with pizza and some time together in the end.
Another energizing GovsPLUS gathering has made it in the books! We couldn’t be prouder of the effort our students have put in all year — especially during these physically demanding service projects. Our students happily give back to their community.
GovsPLUS finishes the school year program with one more gathering (an end-of-year party in June) before the 2014 summer session begins June 30th! What a year we’ve had together!
