Govs artist and Student Center host Chris Robinson joined GovsPLUS students for afternoon of ceramic tile art on Monday and on Wednesday students were joined by Govs lacrosse coach (and Brett’s dad!) Mr. Peter Bidstrup for an afternoon of sport. Mr. Bidstrup and Brett brought Govs lacrosse players Larson Bidstrup ’15 (Brett’s brother!), Kayla O’Connor ’13, and Natalie Sullivan ’13 into the mix to help teach the students the basics then play a game!

On Thursday evening, August 1, GovsPLUS staff, students, family, and friends all came together to celebrate the accomplishments of the twenty-five outstanding students. Students had final classes and performed their step routine before the evening was filled of food, pictures, certificates, a slide show, gift-bags, speeches (staff, student, and guests), and of course a few tears of both joy and sadness.

During the summer the students kayaked, visited the school garden, blew things up in the chemistry lab, played in the field house, learned lacrosse, learned about communication skills, and strengthened their math skills in problem solving class. All this and much more was done over the five weeks that GovsPLUS staff and students came together. When speaking to some of the students in the end, many recalled not the times they were in class or on a field trip, but rather the relationships they built with both students and staff. In other words the location did not matter. What mattered and what was remembered were the conversations and the moments that were shared.

GovsPLUS ended on a high note with breakfast out followed by riding roller coasters and enjoying food at Canobie Lake Park on Friday. Although the last field trip was not by classroom or learning-based, it was a great way for students and staff to spend their last day together and allowed students and staff to create even more memories until the near future when students will be on campus in the fall to join the bigger Govs community.

The GovsPLUS summer program may be over but students will continue to be a part of the Govs community throughout the year until next summer when students will come together again for another five awesome weeks!

Stay tuned for more GovsPLUS action and blogging this fall!
